This picture is of a decomposed deer that we studied in my forensics class in high school. The smell was awful and there were a lot of bugs everywhere, but it was one of the best experiences I had in my high school education. In class we were studying decomposition and how our body changes. We used a dead deer that we got from PennDot in order to see something decompose in person. There were maggots and other bugs all over the body of the deer. During the lab I took pictures of the deer and collected the maggots that were inside the rib cage of the deer. I tried to be active during our activity because I knew I wouldn’t have the opportunity to do this again. This moment was the shining moment in my life where I realized that I really liked forensics and collecting evidence. However, this moment also enforced that I can’t stand bugs, but I didn’t want to give up on something I loved. I decided then that I was going to find other kinds of forensics that would allow me to collect information and analyze it in order to solve mysteries that didn’t involve bugs.

Present:

For my artifact, I chose my first day of Digital Forensics class. My professor introduced herself and what she did for a living before teaching at Bloomsburg University. She told us a few stories of her adventures as a worked on cases. Then she showed us how to make a batch file that said “Hello World.” During my class, I was amazed when my professor talked about all the possibilities we can do with our computer. By the class ended I had a huge headache, but I also was full of excitement because then I knew I was in the right major and on the right career path.

Future:

I chose my first case that I work on to be my future artifact. When I get my first case that I work on I know that all of my hard work at college and all of me efforts to be successful will have paid off. When I get the case in my hands I know that I have reached my dream job.
